the 'groene verbinding' (the green connector) is a large scale 3D construction connecting the south of Rotterdam to the recreational hinterland. Financed by the Rotterdam region, the light weight steel construction has a column free span of 150 meters, crossing highway, railroad, water buffer and the Driemanssteeweg. The bridge forms a specific part of a longer recreational route. The 3D construction forms a sort of interior space for pedestrians and cyclist crossing the underlying infrastructure. During the night the bridge is lightened by long light lines hidden in the handrail. The reflection of the deck strengthens the interior quality of the ridge.
