Playground Heemraadssingel
Easehouse is a pop-up public toilet for Stichting Singeldingen. Every spring, this humble building arises in the playground at the Heemraadspark, where it fulfills its duty during summer.
An inviting, covered diagonal step marks the height difference between a children's and adults' toilet.
Once inside, the visitor is surprised by the triangulated roof that is partly kept open above the toilets.
This utilitarian building deserves the prize because it adds a basic need that lacks in most Dutch parks - a public toilet - and does so in an eccentric and location specific way.
The half open roof not only plays with the elements and the light, but also with your feeling of privacy in public space.
