The Rotterdam Architecture Prize shines a spotlight each year on the city’s best new buildings. The independent prize awards the most successful projects with both a Jury Prize and a Public Prize. The winners are announced during Rotterdam Architecture Month and the prizes are presented to the entire team of client, designer, and builder.
The Rotterdam Architecture Prize is an initiative of the Municipality of Rotterdam and is organized by AIR – Architecture Institute Rotterdam. Since 2011, AIR has invited designers, clients, and builders to submit their projects for consideration.
Jury Prize
A rotating professional jury assesses all submitted projects. The jury consists of experts with diverse backgrounds in architecture and the built environment. From all submissions, ten projects are selected that collectively represent the breadth and quality of Rotterdam’s building production. After visiting the ten selected sites, the jury awards two honorable mentions and the winner of the Jury Prize.
Public Prize
The public can also decide which project deserves recognition. Anyone can vote for their favorite project from the jury selection. The project receiving the most votes wins the Public Prize. Voters can also win a prize: the most compelling voting motivation is rewarded, and the winner is invited to the festive award ceremony.
Jury Report & Award Ceremony
The jury’s findings are published in the jury report, which also includes a selection of voting motivations from the Public Prize. All previous jury reports are available for download [hyperlink] on this website. The Jury Prize and Public Prize are awarded in June during Rotterdam Architecture Month.
